Биография

Born and raised in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada, Karl has called Paris his home for over twenty years. As one of the most in-demand drummers in France, Karl completes his musical identity with his songwriting which Telerama called “an enchanting crossroads between cosmic pop and hypnotic jazz”. Karl's latest release Duality saw the light of day in March 2022. He has recorded six other albums and an EP, entirely comprised of his own original music : Liberating Vines (2004) ; Thinking in Colours (2009) ; Streaming (2010) featuring Sienna Dahlen; The Halfway Tree (2012) ; Midseason (2016) featuring Denzal Sinclaire ; On the Brighter Side (2018) featuring Cynthia Abraham. In 2021 Karl released the EP, Featherweight - Sofie Sörman Sings the Music of Karl Jannuska with Swedish vocalist Sofie Sörman. In 2016 Karl co-founded the Shed Music collective with Christophe Panzani, Pierre Perchaud and Tony Paeleman - members of his close-knit musical family who also form the band, The Watershed. Karl's drumming can be heard on over 100 recordings with musicians including Lee Konitz, Brad Mehldau, Lionel Loueke, Hugh Coltman, Emile Parisien, Ben Wendel, Seamus Blake, Sam Yahel and he is currently a member of the bands of Toine Thys, Olivier Bogé, Matthis Pascaud & Hugh Coltman, Nicolas Moreaux, Cobra Fantastic and Christophe Dal Sasso.
