Born in the small town of New Iberia, Louisiana artist JayyFromUptown gained traction with his early release “Cobain,” a single released in June 2019 shortly after his EP “ME VS YOU” (2019). Jayy utilized the alternative sad rap style of hip-hop popularized by artists like XXXTENTACION and Juice WRLD at the time to gain a small following on social media. Shortly after he began collaborating with Houston based hip-hop artist OneZeno, who shared a similar style to Jayy and the two formed the music collective Sound Trip in early 2020. Coming off of the success of "Cobain,” Jayy released the single “16” in January of 2020 as a part of the Sound Trip collective, continuing to prove he had mastered the alternative style of hip-hop; this track was another success. After a short hiatus in 2020, Jayy released the long awaited single “the end,” a collaboration with Lil Loski, another success, despite the long break leading up to it. After the success of his single JayyFromUptown was featured on the first Sound Trip collaboration with OneZeno and KXRL “Do It Again” a unique twist on EDM and hip-hop, foreshadowing what the young artist's sound was evolving into. At just 18 years old, JayyFromUptown continues to innovate his sound and steadily grow his fanbase.
