Биография
Kayla Brianna Smith, known as Kayla Brianna, is a pop-oriented contemporary R&B vocalist inspired by the likes of Janet Jackson and Aaliyah. Since debuting in the early 2010s on major-label Interscope, she has recorded independently with the likes of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, Rich Homie Quan, and Dreezy, and has released Girl Talk (2019), her slick and assured first album. A granddaughter of Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee Gerry Goffin, and daughter of former professional basketball player Kenny Smith, Kayla Brianna Smith was discovered by industry veteran Vincent Herbert (Lady Gaga, Tamar Braxton) and signed to Interscope. Smith toured with Mindless Behavior and Jacob Latimore and recorded some material, including the 2012 single "Bombs Away" and the 2013 Meek Mill collaboration "I Got That," while with the label. She subsequently went independent and increased her public profile on the scripted reality television series Meet the Smiths. A cover of Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On," produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, was released in 2014. The following year, she made her Billboard chart debut with "Do You Remember," a Rich Homie Quan collaboration that registered on the publication's R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart. Scattered recordings throughout 2018, including singles featuring YFN Lucci and Dreezy, led to the 2019 release of the full-length Girl Talk. ~ Andy Kellman, Rovi
