Based in West Covina, Vexxum goes back as far as 2010, when 13-year-old drummer Matt Anderson and three friends from school got together in a garage to jam. 13 years later, Vexxum rages on, bringing its own form of thrash metal to Southern California and beyond. Ripping the lead guitar is Geremi Perez. Kevin Givens fronts the band, filling both bass and vocal roles. Ira Black is the band’s newest member, joining in April 2023 on guitar. Past lineups have included Vincent Salazar (guitar/vocals), David Contreras (guitar), and Edgar Delgado (bass). So far, Vexxum has released two EPs—Desensitized (Aug 2019), and Hidden Evil (Dec 2021)—as well as a stand-alone single, “Amped Up” (Apr 2020). The band plans to release its first full-length album in early 2024. Vexxum competed in the 2020 Wacken Metal Battle, taking 1st place at the Los Angeles preliminary round at the Viper Room. The rest of the competition was cancelled due to lockdowns, however Vexxum returned to the Metal Battle in 2022, winning consecutive rounds and representing LA in the West Coast Final. From there, the band went on to open the “Big 4” Ultimate Jam Night at the Whisky A Go Go, as well as for Warbringer at the Whisky and Midnight at Brick By Brick in San Diego.
