ABOUT THERESA SOKYRKA | One of Canada’s most pure and honest voices with the soul of an anguished goddess and the chops of Karen Carpenter, Sokyrka has paved a unique career for herself the last 17 years. The multifaceted musician, songwriter and Canadian Idol 2004 runner-up, has independently sold over 100,000 records, securing GOLD status on her first album which also garnered a JUNO nomination for Pop Album of the Year. She has opened for David Gray, was featured on MTV Peru and has performed for the Queen of England. Armed with a random trident of life experiences Lionel Richie once said she ‘had the soul of an old Black Woman living inside of her.’ There is no denying Sokyrka continues to meaningfully address an array of raw emotions with her voice, connecting deeply with her ancestral matriarchal folk healing lineage through music.
