When asked what he hopes to accomplish with his debut record, REO simply stated “I just want to share my story with people in a unique format that pushes the boundaries of what pop music can be. Hopefully this is just the beginning for me.” But as a lifelong musician and songwriter, the 23-year-old Nashville-based artist is hardly a newcomer on the scene. Born Ryan Edward O’Rourke, the New Orleans native picked up his first guitar at age 3 and quickly became immersed in the world of music, writing songs for his family and eventually learning a total of 8 instruments. Out of college, he operated primarily as a producer/engineer, splitting time between New Orleans and Atlanta as he co-wrote and produced records for a myriad of artists in about as many genres. However, after a slew of negative experiences in the industry left him feeling jaded at the end of 2021, REO decided to venture into an independent career as an artist and began production on his first record. The result was Beautiful Liar, a 6-track EP written and recorded between the Octobers of 2021 and 2022. Produced with the help of Mix Mike, the record showcases all of the unique qualities that made REO an industry go-to in the first place. Blending an emotive and diverse style of songwriting with a distinctly modern yet classic sound, Beautiful Liar is the perfect encapsulation of who REO is as an artist right now and how he plans to change the landscape of popular music in the coming years.
