Биография
Czech Republic-based rock band Support Lesbiens earned recognition -- both positive and negative -- for performing their songs in English, with a hard rock sound forged during the upswing of alternative rock worldwide in 1992. Their first full-length offering, 1994's Medicine Man, was popular, but the wariness of the Czech pop music-buying masses toward homegrown bands singing in a different language kept the group from achieving true superstar status. Support Lesbiens eventually released Regeneration in 2001 and Tune da Radio in 2002, and over the years began consolidating their place in Czech hearts, and with their next album, Midlife, in 2004, they were able to do something no other Czech band had done before them. The single "Cliche," from the aforementioned full-length, became the first number one single for a Czech band singing in English, and finally solidified Support Lesbiens as one of the country's biggest names. The band would undergo a stylistic shift, however, as the cornerstone of the band's rougher rock sound -- lead guitarist Jaromir Helesic -- left the band. Support Lesbiens soldiered on, led by flamboyant frontman Krystof Michal with support from Hynek Toman and René Rypar on guitars, Jan Daliba on bass, and Tomás Novák on drums, and released the album Euphony and Other Adventures in 2006. The band's next full-length release, a collection of Support Lesbiens' best entitled Greatest Hits 1993-2007, was a brisk seller, hitting the Top Ten in the Czech Republic's album chart. ~ Chris True, Rovi
