Class of 91 is a Canadian DIY music project formed in 2019 by songwriter, guitarist, and vocalist Ian Ferguson, guitarist Brock Sarault, bassist Fred Pantalone Jr., and drummer Steve Clifford. The band completed their sophomore effort ‘Eyes on Fire’ — a collection of songs about identity, connection, loss, and navigating an increasingly polarized world — in 2020 just as the COVID19 pandemic shut the world down. The band’s personal experiences during the pandemic, coupled with dizzying world events, informed their second EP ‘Lost Stories.’ Produced by Ferguson and Clifford at the band’s home studio in Ottawa, and mastered by Kristian Montano in Toronto, ‘Lost Stories’ explores human conflict, mental health, and duality as its prevailing themes, offered up in a sonic design that has been described as a guitar-forward mix of punk, indie rock, and early 90s alternative in the Bob Mould tradition. The band cite a wide-range of musical influences from The Who through to Fugazi, Love and Rockets, Guided By Voices, M83, Dinosaur Jr., and Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds all of which feed into the band’s signature sound.
