Khyran Shank is a native of Indiana and was known for running track during his time in school. Although he was a serious athlete, Khyran always has a creative side and enjoyed rapping and exploring the art of music, but was intent on running track on a professional level. After a sports injury, Khyran decided that he wanted to start honing his artistic abilities and started recording songs in a sound booth he created in his closet. While Khyran was in college, he had the exciting experience of hearing his first single “Small Talk” playing on the radio on his way to class. This helped Khyran confirm that his creative persona, Shank the Rookie, was on his way to doing great things. After college, Shank moved to Atlanta and recorded a new single, “Cut You Loose.” He started networking with entertainment professionals in the area and gaining more popularity for his music. However, he was still working a full-time job and started to feel the pressure of trying to excel in two different worlds. Once Shank met his current DJ, who convinced him to move from Atlanta to LA, he took this as a sign that he should take this major risk and put his all into his music. Khyran went on to release his third major single “Late Nights,” as well as “Shank’s Rain,” and started Shank also sought to expand his artistic reach and entered some of his creative work into a short film festival. His film won at the festival—another sign that his move to LA was a divinely-led choice.
