There are a lot of questions when it comes to The Stomping Academy. How many people are actually in the band? Is that the best brass section in the world? Why don't they just stick to a genre? The journey started with soulful indie rock back in 2010. Along the way, however, the band seemed to constantly morph into different shapes and forms. Sometimes it was all about folk inspired pop with huge string arrangements, other times they just wanted to make their own "Be My Baby" with a touch of Roy Orbison. On their last album, Times New Roman (October 2018), the band adopted a darker and more experimental sound. Playing around with unconventional song arrangements, pitched vocals and synthesizers the band set out to create an experience that was narrated by the album's different sounds. It was all about challenging the listeners and rewarding those who stuck with the album until the end. From the ghostly marimba of "Down At The Bottom pt. I" to the howling organ in "Do You Have Bad Dreams, Graham?", Times New Roman is something that can best be described as unique. What lies ahead for The Stomping Academy no one knows, but as always, it will be something different.
