I'm a two-time Juno nominee from Victoria, BC Canada. I guess it's not bad that I lost to Alanis Morrisette and Rush. :) My debut album “Magnet to Steele” was released by Chrysalis records in the 90s. My label mate, producer and songwriter Brian Macleod (of Headpins and Chilliwack fame) tragically succumbed to cancer soon after it was released. I had the honour of touring with Bryan Adams and Jethro Tull, and was on the precipice of worldwide stardom, only to be gobbled up by the music industry and the grunge fad. Labels got bought out. It’s a story that is often told, and it's the risk you take as an emerging artist. Now that I'm back with new music, I want to deliver something relevant and current that I could be proud of. Why has it taken so long? It’s complex, but the biggest reason is that life simply got in the way. The upcoming new songs fit well with my life experiences. Working with songwriters my brother Bryan Southern and Glen Willows (Harlequin guitarist and songwriter) has been fruitful. The songs are dark, deep and emotional reflecting my innermost thoughts; To me, they are about the existential torment one might have when going through difficult times. It’s about trying to find meaning in life, the truthful and honest part of yourself. Life can be very challenging at times. I hope that these new songs will be open to the listener’s interpretation, to relate to it, and make it their own. Thanks to my fans all over the world for the unwavering support. :)
