Extort is a 5-piece metal band from Edinburgh, Scotland. Since their establishment in 2019, they played numerous shows across the country after their live debut in June 2022. In September, Extort appeared at their first all-day festival (Hordes X 2022) supporting acts such as Saor, H8teball and Catalysis. Then in November, members from Extort organised a charity festival “Slava Ukraini: Scottish Metallers Fundraiser for Ukraine” across 2 venues, performing with international headliners such as Yoth Iria and Ruadh involved. In December, Extort recorded their debut EP with Ramage Productions – of which the first single “Skyscrapers” was released in February 2023. The band strives to create an innovative sound drawing from each member’s sonic taste, creating something fresh and not bound by any specific genre – however, the overall sound takes inspiration from Death, Groove, and Black metal. The apocalyptic and dystopian meaning behind the lyrics expresses the band’s feelings for the current problems facing society whilst looking for escape and wisdom in Folklore.
