One bright day Stretched out beside the lake Heavy eyes I couldn't stay awake Suddenly Bursting out of the blue Tearing my world away Down swooped the bird of prey Steadily His giant wings unfurled Spinning down His beak and talons curled Transfixed I Witnessed this fearsome sight The bird of prey in flight Wings that blocked out the light Down he came And landed by my side Ruby eyes Feathers as black as night Hungry eyes Gleamed with intensity Cut to the core of me Saw what they came to see With his beak Gently he touched my cheek There I froze I couldn't move or speak Suddenly Something I recognised From shadows of the past That glimmer in his eyes Then I knew Just what my fate would be From the past He had come back to me Take me now Carry me way up high Lift me into the sky Take me away to die Carry me Back to the old country As before Like in my childhood dreams Carry me Into the setting sun My heart is holding on I have become undone The bird of prey Then stretched his wings out wide He turned away And took into the sky
