Jonathan Thorpenberg is the mastermind behind VEMØD, a solo project that showcases his lifelong passion for writing and recording music. He produces his songs at Welfare Sounds, situated in the bustling city of Gothenburg, Sweden. Thorpenberg's extensive experience in various metal bands, including his current stint in The Unguided, is reflected in the project's metal influence. VEMØD's sound can be best described as a fusion of heavy guitar riffs drawn from modern metal and metalcore, spiced with hip hop and trap beats, and huge pop-inspired choruses. The project's name, VEMØD, has no direct English translation but connotes a sense of melancholy or sorrow, which is a recurring theme in Scandinavian music and culture. And with lyrics that delve into anxiety, grief, anger, and loneliness, the songs are truly a reflection of this. The music also reflects this melancholic tone, with its dark, atmospheric undertones and emphasis on theatrics. The Covid-19 pandemic was the catalyst for the project's inception, and Thorpenberg began writing the first demos. Three years later, his debut EP, "Demons Within," is finally set for release, featuring five songs scheduled to drop one at a time during the spring and summer of 2023.
