Биография

b. c.1968, Hines Creek, Alberta, Canada. With friends and relatives Steele played music from early childhood and began performing professionally in 1984. This was when he joined the Edmonton-based band, Rock ‘N’ Horse, with which he recorded Highways in 1991. The band was successful, picking up a Juno Award nomination as Country Group Of The Year, and their singles sold well but by 1993 Steele moved on to further his career as a solo singer and as a songwriter. He was hired by Warner Chappell in Nashville, Tennessee, where he wrote songs usually in collaboration. In 1995 he was signed to Mercury Records Canadian division and released his first solo album, P.O. Box 423. He had considerable success with singles, including a Canadian Country chart number 1 with ‘Anita Got Married’. More Top 30 successes followed the release of his second album and he was soon touring the USA and Canada as a supporting act to major artists. In 1997, ‘Two Names On An Overpass’, co-written with Lisa Brokop, won the Canadian Country Music Association’s award for Vocal Collaboration Of The Year. Steele has also collaborated on writing songs with Shirley Myers, recording ‘Forever In Love’ with her. His success with album and related singles continued and he then released an independent album, which won a 2001 CCMA award for him as Independent Male Vocalist Of The Year. In addition to several CCMA nominations, Steele was also nominated for Juno Awards as Country Male Vocalist Of The Year four times from 1996-99.
