Grain Mother is the atmospheric indie-folk project formerly known as Alice Robbins. Following the acclaimed success of two solo EP’s (Lavender Honey, Wilted), and a headline UK Tour in 2021 Grain Mother now allows for a new beginning, much like the grain – this is a fresh canvas, soon to be harvested. The signature pristine, angelic vocal is now accompanied by the nous of drummer, and up-and-coming producer Cam Worne (Summerhouse Studios, Catmilk, Jiminil) who also accompanies with thick, velvet harmonies. In composition Grain Mother’s sound can be as jagged as it is sweet, jazz inflections on delicate folk-inspired melodies hint at a polluted melancholy, with James Hughes’ colossal guitar sound adding a density to these pure birthed songs. They are now shaped into something unique, both piercing and uplifting, held together by the melodic bass stylings of Jim McBride (Jiminil, Midnight Rodeo). Expect new releases in early 2023 from the Nottingham quartet.
