The Austin-based BURNT SKULL – Dustin Pilkington on guitar, Anthony Davis on drums – formed in the autumn of 2011, performing their earliest songs at house parties, record stores, and punk venues. DAYLIGHT MUTILATION (out June 2nd, 2023 on Funky Noise) is the second album from BURNT SKULL and the debut release from the new label – 10 tracks of crushing, cacophonic noise songs punctuated by nihilistic grooves and atonal collages of sound. 10 uniquely freaky songs of loss, birth, death and ascension. "BURNT SKULL has made an evil, unhinged potpourri of vaguely melodic, hellish rock songs with a pop twist, [with] these wonderful layers that beg to be heard again and again, and again…" (Tolstoy de Carnivale, President and CEO of Funky Noise) SEWER BIRTH is the first album by BURNT SKULL – 10 tracks of brutal punk obliteration, pounding metronomic drums, corroded guitars, and decimated samples – a record containing "quite possibly some of the most destructive noise rock available" (Noisey). Subject matter includes sacrificing your mutant child to the underworld ("Sewer Birth") and becoming one with a sickening, ever-growing mass of human pulp ("Infinite Flesh"). Much of the recording equipment sourced for this album would end up repurposed in the duo's day job as professional children's television composers.
