Deep in the forest, there she lives Perched up above the highest trees Until the end of time she'll stay And gaze through the day At the window of her tower she can be seen Dressed all in velvet blue and green And as the day hurries away Her dress turns to clay And when the night's black curtains fall Outside she looks and mourns "Oh dear old trees Help me out Oh pale white moon You too! I am afraid that someday My dress of clay may fall apart And with it may fall apart the tower" The night came, they spoke back "Do not fear lonesome soul Bring it down on your own" Those wise words that nature spelled Grew up like flowers in her head A towered lady she'll be no more She brings down the wall She brings down the wall now brick by brick The sunlight dances on her cheek But now that it's time for the day to drain Her dress will remain A fortress of clay Unmovable pray Frozen she stands and weeps "Oh dear old trees Help me out Oh pale white moon You too! I thought if I'd brought the tower down My fear would be gone for good But now I feel a fear I never once did It shakes my heart" "Do not fear You have grown Tower lady, on your own The bricks you lay, the shackles of clay With morning dew they'll melt away Scream out your fear, all you have to spew And let your journey start anew"
