Right after school, 5 days a week, hands in the dirt, planting seeds
Daddy said it would get us through the winter
Well like any 8 year old would do, I had to find the answer to
A question that I couldn't understand
So I asked Dad, "What does it take to make this garden grow?"
He looked at me, smiled and said "If you really want to know"
It takes a sun that shines
A sky that rains
Dirt that's richer than sugar cane
It takes the right time of year
A good piece of land
The right tool for the job in your hand
And as the days go by, son it may seem slow

I was running around, she came home from that college town
The prettiest thing my eyes had ever seen
It didn't take too long before I knew, I was in love and she was too
But scared to death cause I didn't know what to do

He raised his head,

We got married and made a brand new start
Then the day came we were filled with tears of joy
As the doctor entered the room and said it's a boy
Then I asked Dad, "What does it take to raise a boy like me?"
He just laughed and shook his head,
And said "Son you have all you need"

The care of a mother
More love to give than you knew you had
It's a wild and crazy journey
At times it's tough but don't worry
