Brown Bird - Colfax текст песни

Исполнитель: Brown Bird

альбом: The Bottom of the Sea

I was born in Colfax, Indiana.
Just a farm boy in the Great Depression
Until I headed off to war.
And if not for the death of my dear appendix,
The love in my heart might have never been born.
Sick leave and living all laid up in bed,
You were the nurse of the dreams in my head.
I kept you laughing,
You kept me fed,
And we had no notion of what lay ahead.
I drew a picture that you'd grow to love.
Well I was still only dreaming
That the image of your face
Wouldn't be in my head forevermore.
Between those lines that I drew,
You knew what really was there
Was a simple love letter
To the woman that I adored.
We were wed in Fort Sill, Oklahoma.
Such a short time with each other,
Then I was back off to war.
In those days must have been the lonliest hours
Two years apart from my love
And my new baby boy.
But I returned home in 1945.
We moved to Clarksdale to find a new life.
Now our kids all have families,
And we've done all right,
And I have not done half bad,
For a half-bred.
No I have not done half bad,
For a half-bred.
