Horizons fade in a rear view mirror,
To let me know that I have gone.
I feel it now, up in my chest,
For the people I have known for so long.
Well, sometimes I go home, just to see them,
We pour a strong one, then we're right back again.
Well, it's good to know they're there,
To tell me how it's been.
In the hills of ole Missouri,
A woman's life is looking dim.
While grandma watches "Wheel of Fortune,"
Because she knows that her's is already well spent.
Well, even though she's gone, I can hear her laugh,
Yeah, it won't be long, till I hear it coming back.
Well, I know that she'd be pleased,
To know that it will last.
I once had someone on my mind,
Until I carved her name into a tree.
Because who could find a pretty knife,
Sharp enough for what we'd need?
Well, things will look a lot better, when they ain't looking down,
So take a deep breath, watch the people walking around.
Well, I hope it won't be long,
Till she pulls me to the ground.
Out on the road, heading toward the city,
I open up my eyes wide now,
Because I know it ain't make believe,
But children always seem so proud.
With one step to make, and one shoe to shine,
If I find a friend, I'll probably be fine.
Well, I think I just got caught,
In another nine to five.
