Well it's one thing after another And my heart is beating out of time I feel it thud like mallets on piano wire I stop and stutter And I 'umm' and 'ahh' and backtrack It does me in but I'm too polite to snap I just used to think that this would be a phase But it won't change It's just the human race Wound up tight! You can smell it in close quarters In silence it just spills out One false turn of phrase Leads to a week of doubt Looking over your shoulder Waiting for the next one to come along Someone much smarter Who'll tell you where you went wrong I just used to think that this would be a phase But it won't change It's just the human race Wound up tight Who's that man in the corner? What's that shadow on the wall? It's alright I know it's weird but What's that sound? It's alright If I'm writing it down am I getting it out? Or am I just fooling myself? And if i'm talking it through, am I spreading the load? Or boring them all half to death? Well now my fingers are clenched And I'm talking this way I think it's safe to say I'm Wound up tight!
